                        Telomerase is a ribonucleoproteinase necessary for the replication of chromosome ends in most eukaryotic organisms.                         The telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) gene is highly expressed in stem cells and is silenced during differentiation. Cancer cells can be immortalized by activating TERT to maintain telomere length and telomerase activity, which is a key step in tumorigenesis. TERT gene promoter mutations are mainly manifested as the genetic changes of malignant tumor-specific somatic cells. There are characteristic telomere lengthening in many tumors such as glioma, which is the key cause of tumor occurrence and development. There are two main mutations in the TERT promoter region that are common in gliomas: 1 295 228C>T and 1 295 250 C>T, which are called C228T and C250T, respectively, and are common in glioblastoma and oligodendroglioma .
